Southwest China's "Hydrogen Corridor" Officially Opens; First Batch of Hydrogen Heavy-Duty Trucks Put into Operation

Jan 23, 2026

On January 16, the opening ceremony of Southwest China's "Hydrogen Corridor" and the launch ceremony for the first batch of 300 hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks under the integrated wind-solar hydrogen production and utilization project were held in the relevant region.

At the ceremony, the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology signed an agreement with an energy enterprise to jointly establish a hydrogen energy research institute, strengthening industry-academia-research collaboration and innovation. Additionally, two large energy companies signed strategic cooperation agreements with the same energy enterprise, respectively, to collaborate on hydrogen industry synergy and joint project development, jointly advancing the growth of the hydrogen energy sector. Subsequently, with the witness of attending guests, the opening ceremony for the Southwest "Hydrogen Corridor" was officially launched.

Hydrogen

Upon the order to depart, the first batch of 300 hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks officially commenced operation. This marks the entry of Southwest China's first "Hydrogen Corridor" into the practical operational phase, providing practical experience for the large-scale application of hydrogen energy in the region.

It is reported that the integrated wind-solar hydrogen production and transportation platform project was launched in July 2025 and is jointly promoted by the local government and relevant enterprises. It serves as a significant demonstration project of the national new energy security strategy implemented at the local level. With a total investment of 3.5 billion yuan, the project encompasses the construction of a hydrogen production plant and a supporting wind farm, forming an integrated model of "wind power hydrogen production—refueling—vehicle operation." Upon operation, it is expected to replace approximately 9,000 tons of diesel annually, supply 500 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity, save 160,000 tons of standard coal, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 440,000 tons each year.

The launch of the project coincides with the release of national guidelines on promoting the integrated development of coal and new energy, making it a pioneering example in Southwest China for exploring the synergy between coal and new energy. By establishing a localized development model, the project not only drives the growth of the hydrogen energy industry but also creates about 200 local jobs, achieving coordinated progress in industrial development and the improvement of people's livelihoods.
